Emissions

Emissions testing in Pennsylvania can vary from county to county as to the type of testing that is needed for your car or light truck.

In the area here around Philadelphia, there are 5 counties that are the most stringent in the state. They are Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware & Chester.

Although there are a few tests available depending on the year of your vehicle and your GVW if you own a pick-up or van. If your vehicle is 1996 or newer, most likely you are subject to a OBD II test that  uses your "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" or the computer system in your vehicle to determine if your vehicle passes or fails.

If you have owned your vehicle for at least one year and you have driven under 5000 miles in that year you are entitled to be exempt from emission. Although a sticker is still issued and a fee is charged you will not subject to failing the test and the fee is much less than the test.

Clean air is enjoyable for everyone. Many large cities now require vehicles to undergo emissions testing in order to minimize air pollution in and around metropolitan areas. If your vehicle fails the emissions test, you cannot complete your annual vehicle state safety inspection.
